ICUD Logo

Cooperatives were celebrated throughout the month of October with Co-op Month, and in Great Britain International Credit Union Day on October 20.
The International Year of Cooperatives 2012 officially began on 31 October 2011, when cooperatives worldwide united in celebration with the theme "Cooperative Enterprises Build a Better World."

International Credit Union Day Theme Highlights Financial Cooperatives' Global Impact

"Credit Unions Build a Better World" Complements U.N. International Year of Cooperatives 2012

This year's International Credit Union (ICU) Day® theme, "Credit Unions Build a Better World," celebrated the important economic and social contributions credit unions make to their communities worldwide. It also aligned cooperatively owned and controlled credit unions with the greater cooperative business sector and the United Nations as the International Year of Cooperatives 2012 launched later in the year.

In Great Britain credit unions celebrated International Credit Union Day on the third Thursday of October. Worldwide, 49,000 credit unions in 97 countries serve 184 million people. In 2009, WOCCU's technical assistance programs reached 5.9 million people in 16 countries. Learn more about WOCCU's impact around the world at www.woccu.org.
