World Conference heads for Belfast

Bookings have opened for the 2016 World Credit Union Conference in Belfast.
The premier annual international credit union education and networking event is organised by the World Council of Credit Unions, and was last held in the United Kingdom five years ago when the event came to Glasgow.
The World Conference runs from 17-20 July, and more than 1,700 credit union staff and volunteers from over 50 countries are expected to attend.
World Council President and CEO Brian Branch said: “We will gather in the Emerald Isle for an education programme focused on what matters to credit unions everywhere: advocacy, membership growth, leadership, technology and the future of financial services.
"This is an ideal opportunity not only for attendees and their credit unions, but the success of the global credit union community as a whole."
Alongside a programme of plenary sessions and workshops featuring high profile speakers and key figures from the global credit union movement, female delegates will have the chance to attend the Global Women’s Leadership Forum, and delegates aged 35 and under can take part in the World Council Young Credit Union People (WYCUP) programme.
This year's conference also features a variety of new networking activities, including a 5k walk/run, yoga, an executive series and dine arounds.
Host city Belfast is Northern Ireland's largest city, full of history, culture, dining and sightseeing. Participants and their guests can explore at length Belfast's unique contemporary and historic sites as part of the conference guest programme.
ABCUL Chief Executive Mark Lyonette said: “ABCUL is proud to be the British member of the World Council of Credit Unions, and the World Conference is a tremendous opportunity for credit union staff, directors and volunteers to share experiences and learn from credit union professionals from a range of countries.
“This year’s conference being in Belfast will make travel costs significantly lower for our members in England, Scotland and Wales than when the conference is further afield, and I hope British credit unions will consider this great opportunity to engage with the global credit union movement on our doorstep.”
Bookings are open now, and as the only British member of the World Council, ABCUL member credit unions are eligible for the World Council member rate. Delegates can also take advantage of a US$100 discount if they book before 20 May.
