Delegates gather for ABCUL Conference
11 Mar 16
Credit union delegates from across Britain are gathering in Manchester for the 2016 ABCUL Annual Conference.
The largest event in the British credit union calendar is set to be one of the biggest in years, with conference numbers well up on 2015. In fact, almost 100 more people will be attending the ABCUL Conference at Manchester's Midland Hotel this year than last year.
This year’s conference is sponsored by CUNA Mutual and will hear from the Chair of the Financial Conduct Authority John Griffith-Jones, and from the President and CEO of Georgia Credit Union Affiliates Michael Mercer, who is also a former Chair of the US national trade association CUNA. Plenary sessions will be facilitated by the broadcaster and writer Fergus Muirhead.
Workshop topics include the Fairbanking mark, social investment, marketing, lending, conduct risk, legislation and regulation, governance, cyber crime, building your online presence and serving rural communities.
And delegates are looking forward to the launch of a number of new services for ABCUL members which will be unveiled at the conference, including the Association’s new training suite – the ABCUL Academy.
The ABCUL Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday, when – as a member-owned co-operative – ABCUL’s member credit unions exercise their democratic control of the Association by discussing, debating and voting on Motions.
The right to attend Annual Conference is an exclusive benefit for ABCUL members, and credit unions of all sizes from across England, Scotland and Wales are taking advantage of the unique learning and networking opportunities the weekend offers.
