CU Futures launched

This is your opportunity to become one of 20 CU Futures graduates.

ABCUL is excited to launch an innovative programme to support and develop young people across the credit union movement. CU Futures aims to attract and retain talent within the credit union movement, and to educate and strengthen the sector by providing the necessary tools and resources to develop strong leadership.

Launched in partnership with The Credit Union Foundation and Citi Foundation, CU Futures is a 12 month development programme, including an industry standard qualification accredited by the Institute of Financial Services University College, to give meaningful development support to future credit union managers, directors and leaders.

Successful candidates will receive bespoke media and financial training and be tasked with exciting projects to develop and promote credit unions, as well as having unique opportunities to engage with stakeholders across the sector.

Applicants must be aged between 18 and 35 years old at the time of their application and be an employee, volunteer or board member of an ABCUL member credit union.

Applicants require their credit union’s permission and need a referee (usually the Chair, Chief Executive or a Senior Manager) who will support them throughout the 12 month programme. The credit union are making a substantial contribution towards the programme in donating their employee’s time over the 12 months and they will be able to impose a claw-back policy to refund some or all of the cost of the programme if employees leave the organisation within two years of completing CU Futures.

All ABCUL credit union employees, volunteers or board members who meet the criteria are encouraged to apply prior to the deadline for applications, which is Thursday 31 March 2016.
Applicants must complete the online application form, which requires the following information:

  • Applicant’s name
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Sponsor credit union name and address
  • Reference from credit union Manager/Chair (100 word limit)
  • A description of how the CU Futures programme will benefit you and your credit union (250 word limit)
  • A personal statement (250 word limit – this will be key to deciding places should the programme be oversubscribed)
  • A copy of your CV

This programme is a tremendous opportunity to develop the next generation of credit union leaders, and it is hoped many of the talented people active in the credit union movement will apply to take part. The programme calendar provides a taster of what candidates can expect to be involved in.
