ABCUL Forums add value
06 Apr 16
ABCUL is strengthening the offering of its member Forums to bring additional value to credit unions.
ABCUL organises 11 Forums across Britain; one for Scotland, one for Wales, and nine regional Forums across England.
All credit unions affiliated to ABCUL can attend their local Forum meetings, and some credit unions that serve members in different parts of the country choose to affiliate to more than one.
Each Forum elects volunteer Forum Officers from among its affiliated credit unions, who are responsible for the management of that Forum.
Following very constructive discussions at the Forum Officers’ Conference last November and after consideration by the ABCUL Board, the Association has changed the way it works with its Forums with a view to increasing the value delivered to members and improving the service experienced by credit unions in all parts of the country.
ABCUL Head of Member Services Rosanna Donovan explained: “It was recognised that while some Forum’s were doing a great job, others were struggling to retain volunteers, to organise attractive meetings and to engage with their local credit unions.
“So it was agreed that ABCUL would devote more staff resources to help all our Forums put on good quality quarterly meetings and events, and to engage and encourage credit unions to get involved.”
All Forum meetings and events are now planned and advertised further in advance via member mailings and the events page on the ABCUL website. And the Association has made it easier for members to book their places at meetings by using Eventbrite.
ABCUL staff are now closely involved in supporting Forum Officers with programme planning, organising speakers and building agendas to help ensure meeting topics and formats which deliver real value for credit unions in that area.
Every credit union in Britain can attend their local ABCUL Forum meetings when they join the Association.
Rosanna Donovan added: “Forums are the place for ABCUL credit unions to meet, learn and share.
“We’ve listened to – and agreed with – members who told us they value Forums, but want them to be better. We’re determined to help improve Forums so that our members get real benefits from these regular meetings and events.”
Five ABCUL Forums have organised meetings for April. The North West Forum met on 4 April, and the Scotland Forum, South West Forum, London & South East Forum and ABCUL Cymru Forum all have meetings scheduled for this month. Full details are available here, and ABCUL member credit unions in those areas are encouraged to send representatives to attend.
