New service point for Norwich CU
03 May 16
Norwich Credit Union has launched a new service point in Dereham.
Located at Broadland Housing Association on the town’s High Street, the new service point is open every Thursday afternoon between 12noon and 2pm.
Norwich Credit Union’s Karen Rudrum said: “This is great news for people living in and around Dereham, who will now have easy access to the credit union’s full range of savings and low-cost loan services.
“We’re very grateful to Broadland Housing Association for allowing us to use their venue right in the centre of town, and for the support of Breckland Councillor Harry Clarke in this venture.”
Councillor Clarke performed the official opening of the new service point and said: “Credit unions are a great community-focused alternative to payday lenders and loan sharks because they encourage people to save and borrow responsibly.
“A credit union on the high street will help local people take control of their finances, which will benefit the whole community. I know from some of my casework and from meeting residents in my ward, it will be a considerable help.”
Norwich Credit Union was established in 1989, and has grown to serve more than 700 members from its 8 service points across Norwich and Great Yarmouth. Anyone who lives, works or studies in an NR postcode can join the credit union, and to date it has loaned over £1 million to local residents.
