ABCUL Forums gain momentum

26 May 16

ABCUL’s Forums continue to gather momentum with a string of successful meetings across the country.

Four Forums have held meetings in May, and a further five Forums have meetings scheduled for June.

ABCUL organises 11 Forums across Britain; one for Scotland, one for Wales, and nine regional Forums across England. All credit unions affiliated to ABCUL can attend their local Forum meetings, and some credit unions that serve members in different parts of the country choose to affiliate to more than one.

A joint meeting of the Yorkshire & Humber and North East Forums was held in York, with ABCUL Chief Executive Mark Lyonette – who addresses each Forum in person at least once a year – attending to speak about the challenges and opportunities credit unions are faced with in Britain and across the world.

The Merseyside Forum met in Huyton, with an agenda including feedback from the recent trip to Romania to meet credit unions and associations in that country.

The East of England Forum met in Harlow, with discussion topics including the new products ABCUL is developing for member credit unions. Both the Merseyside and East of England Forums heard presentations on ABCUL inSight and the ABCUL Academy from ABCUL Member Relationship Manager Simon Stone.

ABCUL Head of Member Services Rosanna Donovan said: “Forums are the place for our member credit unions to meet, learn and share. They’re a great way for credit union staff and directors to meet and socialise with their neighbours and colleagues, to share knowledge and ideas, and to discuss their concerns and challenges with their peers.

“There’s a special added value in getting together with other credit union people every few months, and it’s really heartening to see that so many credit unions recognise that we’ve strengthened the offering at Forum meetings and are attending for the first time. I hope all our members will get involved with their Forums over the coming months.”

The London and South East Forum, the ABCUL Scotland Forum, the ABCUL Cymru Forum, the East Midlands Forum and the North West Forum all have meetings and events scheduled for June. Full details are available here, and ABCUL member credit unions in those areas are encouraged to send representatives to attend.
