Julian Waldron remembered
01 Jul 16
Tributes have been paid to Julian Waldron, a founder of Metro Moneywise Credit Union, who has passed away.
As well as his years of service to the Rochdale-based credit union, Julian was also a key figure in the ABCUL North West Forum, involved in organising many training, networking and social events and offering support and guidance to credit unions across the region.
Julian’s long relationship with the credit union movement began in the late 1980s as a founder of the study group which trained and prepared for 2 years before registering Metro Moneywise Credit Union in 1990. He is the credit union’s member number 3, and served as its first secretary at the start of many years of service on the board of directors.
Julian always saw the value in credit unions working together, and so he helped set up the Greater Manchester Chapter (now the ABCUL North West Forum) and also served as its secretary. He was a key organiser of the Forum’s training, education and development programme, including the first weekend school in Blackpool in 1993, which has gone from strength to strength as the Forum’s annual WOW weekend.
Chair of Metro Moneywise Credit Union Roger Baldry paid tribute to Julian, saying: “He was a good friend to everyone he met and anyone he met always warmed to him.
“His friends at Metro Moneywise will miss him greatly, and I in particular have lost a long time friend – but have happy memories of the many things we did together over the years up and down the country.
“His passing has left us with a big hole in our hearts. In the near future, we will be celebrating his life and all his achievements and will let colleagues know about our plans to remember him.”
