CU Futures head for WYCUP

08 Jul 16

Participants in CU Futures are heading for Belfast to join the World Council Young Credit Union People (WYCUP) programme.

WYCUP is an annual event held during the World Credit Union Conference which is designed to promote and engage the next generation of credit union leaders in the international movement.

Young credit union leaders from a host of countries including the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Poland and the Republic of Ireland will be taking part in WYCUP at this year’s conference in Northern Ireland.

And they will be joined by 15 “CU Futures” from the development and education programme for young credit union leaders in Britain, which is run by the Credit Union Foundation in partnership with Citi Foundation and ABCUL.

The Credit Union Foundation Executive Director Annette Warne-Thomas said: “We’re so proud of all our CU Futures who have demonstrated so much energy, enthusiasm and talent since the programme started in April.

"WYCUP is a fantastic opportunity for the next generation of British credit union leaders to network with young leaders from across the globe in an international programme, and we would like to thank Scape Group for sponsoring our CU Futures’ attendance as part of their ongoing education and development.”

The ABCUL Board agreed that the honour of carrying the Union Flag at next Sunday’s World Conference opening ceremony should fall to one of the CU Futures, and the lucky winner of the draw was Debbie Smith-Hands from Pennine Community Credit Union.

Over 1,700 delegates from more than 50 countries are travelling to Belfast for the World Credit Union Conference, which runs from 17 to 20 July.
