New credit union qualification begins

20 Sep 16

The first students have enrolled for the new Certificate in Credit Union Professional Conduct (CeCUPC).

The CeCUPC is a Level 3 qualification provided through the London Institute of Banking & Finance (until recently known as ifs University College) which not only helps develop credit union personnel’s professionalism and capability, but also allows them to demonstrate their aptitude to members and regulators.

The development of CeCUPC was supported by the Credit Union Foundation with Citi Foundation and Scape Group, and it consists of 3 units of study: credit unions and the financial services environment; the financial services marketplace; and financial services regulation. Students learn through self-study of the course materials and at the end of the estimated 130 hours’ study time, will sit a two hour multiple choice exam which can be taken at any of 165 Pearson Vue driving test centres across the country.

To help students, support with study techniques and revision aids will be available in the new ABCUL Academy learning environment.

ABCUL Head of Member Services Rosanna Donovan said: “For a long time, credit unions have been telling us that there should be a professional qualification for British credit union practitioners, so we’re delighted to launch the CeCUPC and to see the first group of students enrol for it.

“Partnering with the prestigious London Institute of Banking & Finance means this is a qualification which can be part of a career path in financial services, as well as making it more accessible for our members across Britain.”

The London Institute of Banking & Finance is a leading provider of professional and academic qualifications to those working in or towards a career in the financial services industry. It is a registered charity incorporated by Royal Charter that exists to ensure a flow of talented individuals into the financial services industry and related sectors. Its qualifications enable individuals to reach their full professional potential and encourage appropriate and ethical practice. It also works to enhance the financial wellbeing of future generations through its unique personal finance qualifications and wider financial capability initiatives.

The first students enrolled for CeCUPC include all 20 participants in CU Futures (pictured) – ABCUL and the Credit Union Foundation’s innovative programme to support and develop young people across the credit union sector, which is sponsored by Citi Foundation.

Registering for the qualification costs £195 for ABCUL members, and more information – including how to register – is available here.
