More speakers for Scotland Conference

01 Nov 16

More speakers have been announced for Scotland’s Credit Union Conference 2016.

The conference is sponsored by CUNA Mutual and has established itself over the years as the main event in the Scottish credit union calendar for the movement to come together with its supporters and stakeholders to discuss and explore the contribution credit unions can make to the country.

This year’s conference will be held at the Marriott Hotel, Glasgow on Friday 9 December, and will be facilitated by the well known journalist and broadcaster Fergus Muirhead.

The Ministerial address will be delivered by the Cabinet Secretary for Communities, Social Security and Equalities Angela Constance MSP, and delegates will also hear the journalist and author of Spare Change Iona Bain speak about what the next generation of consumers are looking for from financial services. ABCUL Chief Executive Mark Lyonette and CUNA Mutual Europe Chief Executive Paul J Walsh will make the case for how credit unions can meet the needs and expectations of young people.

The conference will also explore the key theme of how credit unions can improve the financial health of Scotland’s workforce, with contributions from Money Advice Scotland Chief Executive Yvonne MacDermid OBE, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Director of Human Resources & Organisational Development Anne MacPherson, and Katie Evans, the Head of Research and Policy at Money and Mental Health (the new policy institute set up by Martin Lewis).

Workshops will explore the role of credit unions in building a Fairer Scotland, what does and doesn’t work in credit union partnerships with schools, and how Scotland’s councils can back sustainable growth of their local credit unions. The full conference programme can be downloaded here.

Delegate fees have been frozen at the same level as last year - £90 for credit union delegates, £130 for public sector and other third sector delegates, and £160 for private sector delegates, and the ABCUL Scotland Forum has agreed to pay for one delegate per affiliated credit union (reimbursed following attendance at the conference). You can book your place here.
