Applications to join the CU Futures Class of 2017/18 are now open.

CU Futures is the innovative programme run in partnership by ABCUL and the Credit Union Foundation and sponsored by Citi Foundation to support and develop young people across the British credit union movement.

The first 20 participants started the programme last year, and with the support of their own credit union sponsors, have made fantastic progress towards their graduation at the ABCUL Annual Conference in March.

Applications are now open for the CU Futures Class of 2017/18, which is open to anyone aged between 18 and 35 years old at the time of their application who is an employee, volunteer or board member of an ABCUL-member credit union.

Applicants require their credit union’s permission and need a referee (usually the Chair, Chief Executive or a Senior Manager) who will support them throughout the 12 month programme.

Applicants must complete the online application form here, which includes full details of all the information and supporting submissions required. The closing date for applications is 5pm on Tuesday 31 January 2017.

The programme is a tremendous opportunity to develop the next generation of credit union leaders, and it is hoped many of the talented young people active in the credit union movement will apply to take part.

Credit Union Foundation Executive Director Annette Warne-Thomas said: "I am really excited to announce the launch of CU Futures 2017/18.

"It's been an absolute joy to see the amazing progress this year's class has made. As part of the course, they have been able to attend the World Credit Union Conference in Belfast, study towards the Certificate in Credit Union Professional Conduct, learn through the ABCUL Academy and ABCUL inSight and complete the Investment in Excellence personal development course.

"CU Futures has received incredible support from the sponsor credit unions, from stakeholders across the movement and from Citi Foundation, and the course was even applauded at Parliament during our International Credit Union Day event this October.

"We have already seen some of our participants receive promotions or volunteers secure permanent roles within their credit union, all whilst completing this challenging course. It has been a pleasure to support young people within our sector and we are incredibly proud of all their hard work and achievements.

"We look forward to another 20 people becoming CU Futures to continue to develop talent within British credit unions. Our current CU Futures and their sponsors will be celebrating their graduation at this year’s ABCUL Annual Conference and we will be welcoming the 2017 participants to this event.

"Thanks to the valued support of ABCUL members, we can provide meaningful development for young people to enhance the long-term sustainability of our movement's growth and success."
