US experts to address Conference
17 Jan 17
Two leading experts from the American credit union movement have been confirmed as speakers at the 2017 ABCUL Annual Conference.
Bill Hampel (pictured left) is Chief Economist and Chief Policy Officer of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), the largest and most influential national trade association advocating for America's 6,000 credit unions.
Bill has worked with CUNA for almost 40 years, and is a recognised expert on the US economy and credit union issues. He is regularly interviewed by the media for stories appearing on major national television, radio and print outlets. He has also testified before Congress about a number of key credit union issues.
Marshall Boutwell (pictured right) is the President and CEO of Peach State Federal Credit Union (PSFCU). The credit union serves a number of Boards of Education, employers and communities across the state of Georgia.
A highly decorated officer in the US Army before pursuing a career in financial services, Marshall was appointed CEO at PSFCU in 1994. Under his leadership, the credit union has grown its membership ninefold to 48,000 and has grown its assets from $14 million to over $330 million.
Both speakers will share their expert insights with delegates on subjects such as risk-based lending, sustainability for small credit unions and how credit unions can respond to the demands of the modern consumer
The 2017 ABCUL Annual Conference will be held on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 March at the Midland Hotel, Manchester. ABCUL members can book their place here, with substantial savings to be made at the early bird rate for bookings received by 30 January.
Other confirmed sessions include:
Regulatory updates – we will be joined by senior officials from the Government and regulators; Gwyneth Nurse (HM Treasury), Alison Carpenter (Financial Conduct Authority) and Roger Marsh (Prudential Regulation Authority).
Engaging employers – hear about a new Credit Union Foundation project to help credit unions to engage with employer partners, and from the Fairbanking Foundation on how to demonstrate to employers and other stakeholders how credit unions promote saving alongside borrowing.
Success in lending – hear from credit unions that have been able to buck the trend of falling lending, and how you can do the same with some straightforward and simple steps.
Attracting investment – learn about the findings of a new report from Social Finance and Big Society Capital on how credit unions might attract inward capital investment to boost growth, and how to impress potential investors.
The ABCUL Annual Conference is the premier event in the British credit union calendar. Last year, over 350 people gathered for what was the largest and most successful ABCUL event in years, and we are looking forward to another great event in March.
