New credit union websites launched

Seven credit unions are now benefitting from new websites through Cornerstone’s Web Front End.

ABCUL’s trading subsidiary Cornerstone Mutual Services has been working to deliver a digital strategy designed to provide tools and specialist support to enable credit unions to collectively and individually compete in the digital space with other financial services providers.

The Cornerstone Web Front End (WFE) is a modular site-building tool that offers credit unions a bespoke, branded, fully mobile optimised member-facing website that is hosted and maintained by Cornerstone.

Unlike other products on the market, the WFE is completely configurable for individual credit union needs. So although Cornerstone has built a standard template specially designed for the requirements of credit unions, this means that a credit union can create a bespoke content structure or personalise a copy of this template for their own needs.

Once the site is created, credit unions are able to amend content and add new pages or features instantly via a simple to use Content Management System (CMS). The WFE is built to support in-bound emails, Google Analytics, social media, Google Maps and Google online forms, and is fully optimised across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.

Seven credit unions are now live on the Cornerstone Web Front End; two credit union sites link into the Cornerstone Model CU's Agiliti banking platform and five link into other credit union back-end platforms. A further five sites will be live by the end of March.

The first credit union to link the WFE into their existing back-end platform was Eastern Savings and Loans.

The team at Eastern Savings and Loans saw the advantages of upgrading their site and, working with the Cornerstone team, launched a new site which delivers the sort of digital access channel their existing - and prospective - members are looking for.

Eastern Savings and Loans' CEO Chris Mole said: “We are delighted with the Cornerstone Web Front End as this has given a professional image to our online presence. We are now confident to drive traffic to our website and have already seen some strong growth in online loan applications."

Early analytics data has shown uplifts in both traffic and online applications, plus a reduction in bounce rates (ie visitors leaving a site without taking any action). The new site is attracting and serving significantly higher numbers of visitors compared with the same period a year ago. With over half these visits coming from mobile devices, the Cornerstone WFE means these consumers are enjoying the sort of digital experience they expect from a financial service provider.

Once Cornerstone has met all the Web Front End requirements of the credit unions that are migrating to the Cornerstone Model CU, it plans to offer the Web Front End and supporting digital services to credit unions more widely.
