Kirit Patel Award presented
03 Apr 17
The first Kirit Patel Award for outstanding contribution to an ABCUL Forum has been presented to Alfred Williams.
The new award has been established in memory of Kirit Patel, who made his own outstanding contribution to the credit union movement as a Director of NFRN Credit Union and as an Officer of ABCUL's London and South East Forum until his death in November 2015.
The award is generously supported by the National Federation of Retail Newsagents and NFRN Credit Union, and ABCUL Forum Executives around Britain were asked to nominate people who – like Kirit Patel – have made a significant positive difference for credit unions through their local ABCUL Forum.
The award was presented for the first time during this year’s ABCUL Annual General Meeting, and the recipient was Alfred Williams (pictured left with ABCUL President Robert Kelly). Alfred is the Chair of Wolverhampton City Credit Union and also serves as an Officer of ABCUL’s West Midlands Forum.
In their nomination, the ABCUL West Midlands Forum Executive said: “Alfred has been instrumental in guiding Wolverhampton City Credit Union to become a very successful credit union, and has been for many years a driving force within the West Midlands Forum, providing support and encouragement in mentoring new volunteers and young people in the movement.”
ABCUL Forums are the place for credit unions to meet, learn and share on a regular basis throughout the year. ABCUL organises 10 Forums across Britain; one for Scotland, one for Wales, and eight regional Forums across England. All credit unions affiliated to ABCUL can attend their local Forum meetings, and some credit unions that serve members in different parts of the country choose to affiliate to more than one. Details of forthcoming Forum meetings can be found here.
