US TV star to address World Conference

21 Apr 17

Delegates at the 2017 World Credit Union Conference will hear from a series of high calibre speakers, including Shark Tank star Robert Herjavec.

The technology entrepreneur (pictured) is one of the star investors on ABC’s three-time Emmy award-winning television show Shark Tank – the American version of Dragons’ Den.

The son of immigrants, Robert went from waiting tables to launching a computer company from his basement. In 2003, Robert founded Herjavec Group, and it quickly became one of America's fastest growing technology companies. Today, Herjavec Group is recognised as a global leader in information security, specialising in managed security services, compliance, incident response and remediation efforts for enterprise level organisations.

The 2017 World Credit Union Conference is being held in Vienna, Austria from 23 to 26 July. Robert will address delegates on Tuesday 25 July on the topic Fast, Forward & Focused, where he will reveal a few secrets from inside the Shark Tank and inspire anyone looking to keep up in a fast moving world.

The conference will also hear from Susan Etlinger, an industry analyst with Altimeter, a Prophet Company, where she focuses on data, artificial intelligence and ethics. She has been quoted in media outlets such as the BBC, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times, and will speak on Monday 24 July about how current trends and technologies such as digital media are affecting consumer behavior and challenging the customer experience.

And on Wednesday 26 July, delegates will hear from Simon Mainwaring, the founder of We First, a leading brand consultancy that provides purpose-driven strategy, content, and training. Simon’s book We First: How Brands and Consumers Use Social Media to Build a Better World was named an Amazon Top Ten Business Book, and strategy+business named it the Best Business Marketing Book of the Year. Simon will speak to delegates about the millennial mindset, behaviours and aspirations that credit unions can leverage to build their reputation, customer communities and impact in the world.

The World Credit Union Conference is organised by the World Council of Credit Unions, and more than 1,800 credit union staff and volunteers from over 55 countries are expected to attend this year’s event, which focuses on networking and educational sessions geared towards finding solutions to today's industry challenges.

Bookings are open now, and as the only British member of the World Council, ABCUL member credit unions are eligible for a very significant saving by booking at the World Council member rate. Delegates can also take advantage of a US$100 discount if they book before 19 May.
