Eden and South Lakeland Credit Union has opened a new outreach office in Kendal.

The expansion follows the successful completion of a merger between EdenSave Credit Union and South Lakeland Credit Union, and the new Kendal collection point is open at Sandylands Methodist Church every Wednesday from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

This is just the beginning of the newly merged credit union’s plans to grow and do more for the people of Cumbria, with the credit union seeking to hire a part time general manager, recruiting additional volunteers and unveiling more ambitious plans to strengthen their presence and accessibility across the region.

Eden and South Lakeland Credit Union Chair Adrian Rush said: “We are excited to have got to a point where we can create a paid general manager position. The new outreach office is a forerunner for a planned town centre office in Kendal, open more days a week from the autumn.”

As well as the new Kendal collection point, the credit union runs a busy head office in Penrith (pictured) which is open Monday to Friday and an outreach office every Thursday in Alston.

One of the newest volunteers to start working with the credit union is Wendy Walker. She said: “I started work as one of the front office team at Penrith a few weeks ago, and even though I am no money expert, the training gave me confidence and I have enjoyed the face-to-face contact with the public. We nearly always have time for a chat, and the volunteers behind the scenes can give expert advice on saving and borrowing.”

Edensave Credit Union opened its doors in October 2013, and following the agreement of both credit unions’ members, South Lakeland Credit Union merged into it in January 2017. The new Eden and South Lakeland Credit Union now serves anyone who lives or works in the Eden and South Lakeland districts of Cumbria.
