ABCUL Road Show rolls into Bristol

Three ABCUL Forums have come together for a special Road Show in Bristol.
This new type of members’ meeting was open to credit unions from ABCUL’s Cymru, West Midlands and South West Forums, and attracted a great attendance from 19 different credit unions of all sizes from across the three areas.
The thinking behind the special Road Show was to enable a bigger group of member credit unions from across the three Forums to share and discuss challenges and learning, helping them to develop a wider network of knowledge sharing and peer support than would be the case in their own local ABCUL Forum alone.
The joint event was also able to attract a wider range of speakers, with presentations focused on sharing and developing some of the key themes from the ABCUL Annual Conference.
ABCUL Policy and Compliance Manager Matt Bland gave an update on the current credit union regulatory environment, and ABCUL Member Relationship Manager John Haslam delivered a presentation on how to increase your loan to asset ratio.
Sessions were also led by local credit union personnel, with Malcolm Keyte from 6 Towns Credit Union and Jazzmynne Dixon from Wolverhampton City Credit Union challenging everyone on their use of social media, while Jackie Simpson from Somerset Savings and Loans shared her learning from a visit to credit unions in the United States on how you can do more to support your local community.
ABCUL Head of Member Services Rosanna Donovan said: “We’ve made massive improvements to ABCUL’s local Forum meetings over the last two years, and this ABCUL 3 Forums Roadshow is a new innovation to let neighbouring Forums meet together to share and learn with a wider group of colleagues.
“We’re delighted that this event has had such a good response and positive feedback, with credit unions with a few hundred local members and over 27,000 members alike coming along to exchange views and experiences and learn together.”
