Wolverhampton City Credit Union opens pop up shop
27 Jul 17
The not-for-profit community bank opened on Wednesday July 26 and will be on hand for local people in a bid to help local people have access to ethical, affordable financial services. The aim is to help local residents join the credit union, open a savings account or apply for a low interest loan.
The idea came from Tony Blakeway and Eileen Owen, WCCU members and volunteers, who are also founder members of the former NEW Friends Credit Union, which recently merged with WCCU.
WCCU’s manager Matt Goulding said: “We already have over 1,300 members in the WV10 area of the city and want to serve them better with more conveniently located help and access to savings and affordable loans. We know that high interest doorstep lenders and payday lenders operate in the area - and there’s always a risk of loan sharks conducting illegal money lending. We hope our pop-up provides a fair and affordable alternative.”
The pop up shop will be open on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month. WCCU staff will be on hand from 10.00am to 1.00pm. To find out more about the pop up shop click here.
