This year’s World Credit Union Conference in Vienna saw the distinguished service award being received by The Global Women’s Leadership Network. This is the highest honour to be awarded by the World Council of Credit Unions, which is given because of outstanding contributions to international credit union development.
The network was set up in 2009 by the World Council to address the industry’s gender gap and provide more opportunities for women involved in credit unions. Over 2,000 women are now part of the network, which is the industry’s only platform dedicated to facilitating greater gender balance, particularly among leadership positions.
Susan Mitchell, chair of the Network, accepted the award and said: “We are changing lives and making a measurable difference in the lives of women. This is a human initiative. We need all people of the world to come together as a co-operative movement.”
