Citi has funded a delegation of ABCUL credit unions to the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions annual conference with delegations having attended in 2014 in Detroit and 2016 in Dallas.
The British contingent was made up of Lucky Chandrasekera from London Mutual Credit Union, Ann Hickey from East Sussex Credit Union, Karen Farrow from Just Credit Union and Christina Stoneman from Dragonsavers Credit Union.
Gregory Schiefelbein Senior Vice President at Citi Community Development said "Citi works with credit unions on both sides of the Atlantic helping support their work serving underserved communities. It's fantastic to be able to leverage Citi's global position to enable the sharing of lessons and best practice, and support a UK delegation to attend the Federation conference for a third time.
"It's been a great conference with a ground-breaking host credit union here in St. Louis, and we look forward to seeing how the UK group uses the new learnings and experiences back home."
This year delegates met at the historic Union Station Hotel in St. Louis and the conference included a site visit to St. Louis Community Credit Union. This conference of credit union and community finance leaders allows sponsors to connect with decision-makers at credit unions focused on service and growth.
Senior Vice President of Membership and Network Engagement at the Federation Pablo DeFilippi said: “It's been great to continue our partnership with ABCUL and the UK credit union sector this week. It's exciting to be able to share our experiences and learn from each other as we face so many common challenges in successfully serving excluded communities.”
Pablo leads the Federation’s membership development and engagement strategies and continues to say: "We hope to be able to build on this partnership in the coming years to the benefit of underserved people in both the UK and US."
ABCUL’s Head of policy Matt Bland also attended the conference and said: “Like in previous years, this year's conference has been a combination of inspirational examples of best practice, valuable insights into technical know-how and, most importantly, a chance to build networks and relationships. The group found the whole experience hugely valuable and rewarding and we thank Citi for making it possible and the Federation and its members for their warm welcome.
"In order to share the wealth of knowledge we've gained the group will be publishing a report of the key themes from the conference and using conference and forum opportunities to disseminate the lessons further."
