Also recognised was one of Newport Credit Union’s volunteers, Reg Smith, for his tireless service as Treasurer. And pupils of St Mary’s RC Primary School in Bridgend were also recognised for running a credit union savings club in school.
The Member Making a Difference award was given to Kalamba Kazadi, a member of Cardiff & the Vale Credit Union, for his work starting an orphanage in the Democratic Republic of Congo with the help of a loan from the credit union.
The awards were presented by Hi-Di-Hi star, Ruth Madoc, and Jane Hutt AM – Leader of the House in the Welsh Government – was the keynote speaker. A full run down of the awards and an ITV Wales report of the event are available on the Credit Unions of Wales Facebook page.
