Scottish Parliament & Scottish Government mark International Credit Union Day

The Scottish Parliament has marked International Credit Union Day this week.
Convenor of the Cross-Party Group on Credit Unions, Ruth Maguire MSP, has been joined by 33 colleagues in supporting her motion to mark International Credit Union Day. The motion notes the significant growth in credit unions in Scotland in the last decade with assets growing by 149% and membership by 73% since 2007. It also welcomes the support of the Scottish Government in relation to junior savers, funeral poverty and raising awareness of credit unions across Scotland. It also notes that credit union membership in Scotland stands at 7.3% of the Scottish population.
Meanwhile John Swinney, MSP for Perthshire North and Deputy First Minister in the Scottish Government, took the opportunity to visit Perth & Kinross Credit Union of which he was the first member to help them celebrate International Credit Union Day.
