London & South East Forum celebrates International Credit Union Day
27 Oct 17
Last week saw International Credit Union Day celebrated around the world and across the UK. Of particular note was the extremely successful conference held by ABCUL’s London & South East Forum for credit unions and friends in the sector from across the globe.
The day was attended by fantastic 108 delegates from 34 credit unions. Delegates were greeted at the beginning of the day with a speech by an inspirational keynote speaker from the USA, Marshall Boutwell. Marshall is the long serving President/CEO of Peach State Federal Credit Union, Georgia, and has led their growth from 5,000 to nearly 50,000 members over 23 years. Marshall’s speech had a clear message to delegates – ‘don't be afraid to take risks, if the worst that can happen is a loss you can afford to take.’ His speech illustrated the theme of this year’s ICUD: Dreams Thrive Here indicating how credit union and other financial cooperatives serve as catalysts to make different professions, personal choices and career paths real.
The day was a fruitful and inspirational day of learning for credit unions from London, the South East and across the country. Sessions covered topics including: boosting lending, managing cyber crime, young leadership development, social media marketing, and underwriting and credit control.
