Final week of BBC One series ‘A Matter of Life & Debt’
27 Oct 17
This week was the third and final week of the BBC One documentary series ‘A Matter of Life & Debt’. We have thoroughly enjoyed the series and the impact it has had across the credit union sector in Great Britain. The final five episodes aired this week produced more great coverage for ABCUL Credit Unions.
As we stated last week the members that feature on the show are providing heart-warming and uplifting stories that show audiences the great work credit unions are doing for their members, including the most vulnerable. Congratulations to those involved, including: Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre Credit Union, Lanarkshire Credit Union, Lewisham Plus Credit Union, London Capital Credit Union, London Mutual Credit Union, NHS Credit Union, Stroud Valley Credit Union and Swan Credit Union.
The show has been hugely successful for boosting credit unions’ membership enquiries and on social media with the show coinciding with International Credit Union Day.
Karen Bennett, Chief Executive of Enterprise Credit Union in Merseyside said: “What a pleasure to watch this and just see the difference we are making to so many people’s lives. It really highlighted what we so often forget about: that’s people helping people. Well done to everyone who took part both on the big screen and in the background. You should be very proud of yourselves.”
And Margaret Goodyear from Norwich Credit Union said: “We had 83 hits on our website the next day and many online applications to join as well as phone calls asking for more information. Let’s hope it continues. Something like this can really build momentum for membership – just what we need.”
