A launch event was held at the new office in Washington Square shopping development to mark the opening of the new branch and was attended by leader of Allerdale Council, Alan Smith, and Allerdale Council deputy leader, Mark Fryer.
Affinity’s Chief Operating Officer, Mike Schilling, reflected on the hard work that went into the launch: "I'd like to thank our volunteers and staff - we've had huge changes over the last six months and they've done a tremendous job.”
Adding: "We've launched our new Affinity brand and we're very proud of it. It's the best we've ever looked.
"As a member’s organisation, we're not here to make money. We want to help tackle financial inequality with this community organisation."
The council revealed last month that people living in the area are £450 million in debt and they are desperate to help the community by ensuring an ethical business such as Affinity Credit Union has the resources it needs to effectively help their community.
The new branch will help people to take out affordable loans and keep them away from high interest lenders. Councillor Smith said: "We've looked at reducing poverty over the last six years and while we can't eradicate poverty completely, we have a chance now to offer people safe, affordable loans.”
