The church are preparing for one of the busiest seasons in the year – Christmas –  and are to deliver more than 700 food hampers to individuals and families in  need within the church as well as vulnerable people based in the London Borough of Wandsworth.

NTA Tooting’s tradition of distributing food hampers was started in 2008 by the late Rose Powell MBE, since the inception of NTA Tooting’s Christmas Hamper programme the church has distributed over 2,900 hampers.

Food for the hampers is bought from local stores and a team of volunteers – which this year will include the teenage members of the PCU youth board – help to pack the hampers and distribute them throughout the borough.

A range of charities within Wandsworth will receive hampers including those working with the homeless, the mentally rough sleepers, victims of domestic violence and children in care.

Elaine Bowes, the PCU’s Marketing Manager stated, “The PCU sees supporting the NTA Tooting’s Christmas Hamper programme as an important element of our corporate social responsibility programme and contributing to the improvement of the community we are part of in some substantial way.

“The Christmas hamper programme provides an essential local social service to individuals and families in desperate need at Christmas and we feel honoured to take part in this.”
